The Alaskan Malamute Working Association was conceived in August 1992, by two founder members and then created by 18 enthusiasts, who got together and wanted to work their dogs.
At the time not many people in Britain were working their Malamutes, although sled-dog sports in general were on the increase. From a few teams, the working side has grown to seeing regularly 20 or more teams entering any one event.

Although not part of the breed club, AMWA is an Association which was formed to organise or help to organise events primarily for Alaskan Malamutes in Britain, but also to include other sled-dog breeds and has been successful over the last 14 years in achieving some great events, and although the 2006/07 season has only had one working event, due to unfortunate circumstances, the 15th year Fun Weekend looks to be the best yet.

We have held various events over the years including timed events, backpacking, weight-pulls and treks and have grown steadily in members (and dogs) in the 14 years of its existence.
While most of this site is for Malamutes we also cater for Siberian Huskies, Canadian Eskimo Dogs, Samoyeds and Greenland Dogs, which shows we are an all round Association
